Black Lives Are Magic is a set of short poems inspired by the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd. These pieces are intended to spark conversation and reflection in a way that is lifted in resolve.

Black Lives Matter, Period., to Harriet, and happiness spell will be premiered on pianoforte by Rory Cowal of Portland Oregon. We connected during the dynamic protests that were happening in the city in the summer of 2020. A massive effort from local BIPOC leaders to unite the people through art was how the connection was made.

These pieces were composed while in Residency at the Lou Harrison House Music, Arts, and Ecology in Joshua Tree, CA. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have focused on creating a work that is necessary and also healing in its intent.
