Mad Composer Lab

Wind Player Grooviness

To be honest y’all, COVID-19 is cramping our mojo. So, instead of actually marching in the streets, which would be so groovy, we have opted to follow the leadership of the CBDNA (College Band Directors National Association) and limit our music grooviness to virtual jams.

So what’s the plan yo? Mad Composer Lab and PDX Drumline are combining forces. Together, with you’re help, we’re going to jam the feds right out of PDX.

How are we doing this yo? Ok, the PDX Drumline will handle the frontline rhythm protests. The audio from the protests will then be made available for you to download and record yourself playing along with. This can be on zoom or google meet. That way we have a video of you playing as well. if you are in a household of musicians, consider combing forces. Also, be creative, we can use these as part of our visuals, if you’re down.

What are we playing yo? We are in the process of arranging BLM chants and cheers into rhythm chants and funky grooves. Also, I am in the process of arranging Negro Spirituals and Field Songs. Arrangers and Composers are welcome to submit pieces. BIPOC are especially encouraged to contribute.

Who’s going to see this yo? Everyone you share it with.

Yo, I would like to participate but, I’m technically challenged. Email me. kennedy@madcomposerlab.com

Ok, what are some ways you can help organize?

Share the effort. Our power and strength is magnified in numbers. If you have equipment, consider letting us borrow. All resources are welcome.

I know there are tons more questions, please feel free to send them over, I will happily update this site and IG so you all know what’s happening!

All the Gratitude!! See you in the streets. Stay safe. @madcomposerlab -Ke Nne Dy
